Football Crazy
2 February 2010

Kevin embarked on another trip to Zululand today, this time to take footballs to thousands of children who he supports through food to school schemes.

After speaking with his partners on the ground in Nkandla last week, Kevin was told that the whole area was excited about FIFA 2010 which is being hosted in the country in June, but that many children different have access to footballs to play.

If the 12,000 mile round trip wasn't enough, Kevin had to drive a further 400 mile round trip on the ground to find all terrain footballs suitable for the harsh conditions.

Kevin then delivered the footballs to schools, orphanages and to street children, enabling thousands of children to access the sport.

Kevin who is known as 'Banana Man' in the area because he has helped feed over a million school meals of fresh fruit there, said 'The Zulus love playing football and its incredible to see how the sport transcends poverty, bringing happiness to the children, who play barefoot, in extreme temperatures and humidity, and at high altitude, as the area is over 3,000 ft above sea level.'

Kevin now hopes to raise £10,000 to set up a sports academy in the area and has already been donated land and buildings for this purpose.
