Photo Blog of Kevin's latest trip to Zululand

We found these young roadside orphans in a wheelbarrow being looked after by other young children.
As well as trying to feed a million school meals a year, Banana Appeal is trying to build a child village to protect thousands of vulnerable children like these.

A small fruit stall in Nkandla

Happiness is contagious!!

An apple a day...
We fed this young lady as she worked at the roadside with a sharp knife in hand, working for pennies.

This little girl was washing clothes only meters away from a nest of snakes.
Sadly most of the children in Zululand, including this young girl, have to walk around the area shoeless.Snake bites are common place and just one of many daily dangers facing these children.

'Banana Man' meets the Mayor of Nkandla
Banana Appeal has been feeding 950 children in the Mayor's school for nearly two years now.

Children working just to survive.

When Kevin first found Lindiwe in 2005 she was dying of AIDS on the floor of a mud hut - she was also trying to look after 13 children, many of whom were orphans she had taken in.
Kevin helps Lindiwe and her children each time he visit's Zululand and hopes to set up family sponsorship schemes to keep parents like Lindiwe alive. The best way to save the children is to
save their parents.

This little angel was being looked after by other young children - yet they still find the power to smile.

Kids love balloons the world over!!

Mbali was only a child when Kevin first met her in 2005, now as a young teenager she is a mother herself.

Zululand is an awesome land of wonder, and woe

38 girls live in their school classroom as they have no home to go to after lessons.
South Africa has over 2.5 Million forgotten AIDs orphans like these.

Beer loving Nuns!!
I'm not religous - but I guess I could convert!

This trader was happy to do business with us as we cleared his stall!

I was so angry when I found four orphans living in this squalid mess. Dogs should not have to live like this, let alone children.
The four orphans we found had no food, no money, no hope and were in a truly dreadful state.
Their pregant elder sister, only a teenager herself, had abandoned them that morning, as she simply couldnt cope with the burden anymore...given her life, you couldn't blame her.
We took back enough food for many months and gave the children money which would help them for a while. But it just wasn't enough...
